A landscape of crossroads

The local name is often linked to the Latin quadruvium, a meeting of four roads. Treat the idea as an invitation: choose a direction, take your time, and notice the changing textures of inland Istria.

Sopajac: the landscape turns inward

Sopajac, also known as Veli dol, is a striking karst depression near Škropeti. Its wooded slopes reveal a very different Istria from the coastline. Ask locally about current access; uneven ground and natural edges call for care.

History on a smaller scale

Rakotule’s Church of St Nicholas is known for its medieval wall paintings. A visit is not something to assume will be available on arrival: enquire locally about access and respect this quiet heritage setting.
